ELECTION CENTRAL 2008
DARE TO COMPARE
(Sunday, March 02, 2008)
The Alberta Social Credit Party has reconstructed its website in less than one month and while it may lack the “bells-and-whistles” of other party websites, it is certainly not lacking for content or new ideas. We feel our platform and policies offer Albertans a window on the future and a vision of the grand possibilities like no other political party in the province. And, we ask you to check it out for yourselves. We are confident that our overall program is as imaginative and innovative as anyone is likely to find anywhere in the 2008 election. To prove our point, we are attaching links to the other Alberta parties and challenging them to post a link to our website. Social Credit is not about “glitz-and-glamour” but about substance – and, we are prepared to back it up with conviction!

POLICE SHUT DOWN SOCRED RALLY
(Wednesday, February 27, 2008)
A rally by enthusiastic Alberta Social Credit Party supporters was shut down at 8:00 A.M. this morning by Calgary's finest. A large group of placard waving, cheering supporters shouting, " R U READY, YES WE ARE!" and "JIM WRIGHT, RA! RA! RA!" were present on the corner of 16th Avenue and Centre Street North starting at 7:00 A.M. during rush-hour traffic. The rally was in support of Jim Wright, Socred candidate in Calgary - North Hill. Police cited the crowd, noise, and waving placards were causing a distraction to the traffic. An extra police van was also brought out to handle the crowd of Socred supporters but the rally terminated peacefully.

CONSIDER THE SOURCE: PART I
(Monday, February 18, 2008)
The recent announcement by the Stelmach government to eliminate health care premiums within four years is old news to Social Credit as the proposed measure has been a mainstay of Socred policy for years. Former party leader, Lavern Ahlstrom, can trace back the resolution to at least 1997 which would pre-date any prior claim by the other opposition parties as far as we can determine. More importantly, New Democrat MLA Ray Martin, on behalf of Social Credit, presented a petition last spring with over 1000 signatures to the Speaker of the Legislature advocating the elimination of the premiums. Social Credit would in fact take it one step further by rolling back the premiums within a year and not four years. Nonetheless, the PC’s are to be congratulated for adopting a Socred initiative but electors are reminded that if they want something changed faster in the future, vote Social Credit.
CONSIDER THE SOURCE: PART II
(Monday, February 18, 2008)
When the Wildrose Alliance recently released its election platform, many Social Credit supporters were left shaking their heads – not because several of their key planks were necessarily bad but because they were our policies from the start! Plebiscites triggered by signed petitions (we have already demonstrated the power of petitions), fixed election dates, elected health boards, and the creation of a provincial police force – these are all part of the Social Credit program. Even the WA’s blue and green party colors mirror those of Social Credit. Increasingly, Alberta’s political parties desperate for new ideas are turning to Social Credit for inspiration whether it is the party with one seat or the party that has been ruling the province for 37 years. Perhaps, the time has come for Albertans to look elsewhere and to consider the source of the best ideas to surface in the 2008 election – Social Credit.
SOCIAL CREDIT PROGRAM REVEALED
(Monday, February 11, 2008)
The Alberta Social Credit Party released its election platform at the candidate’s orientation held in Calgary on Saturday, February 09, 2008. Party leader, Len Skowrowski, presented a seven point program that featured a question and answer format highlighting the following:
R U READY? For education that meets the needs of students and employers?
R U READY? For first class service in health care?
R U READY? For a better share of energy resource wealth for all Albertans?
R U READY? For reasonably priced utilities?
R U READY? For affordable housing?
R U READY? For Alberta business owned by Albertans?
R U READY? For a pristine environment?
Albertans are invited review the contents of our platform and judge for themselves if these are concerns that they share in common with us. Click here to open.
OFF AND RUNNING!
(Monday, February 04, 2008)
The Alberta Social Credit Party is pleased to unveil its official slogan and logo, “R U READY?” for the upcoming provincial election announced earlier today for Monday, March 3rd. Social Credit will be asking Albertans in the coming weeks to consider the only alternative to the Liberals or ruling Conservatives – Social Credit, a party with a rich history of governing the province and a party eager to rekindle a flame under the people of Alberta.
Forget the rest! Social Credit is neither socialist like the Green Party or New Democrats nor right wing like the Wildrose Alliance. We are not in debt up to our ears like the Liberals (which should come as no surprise) nor have we ever spent the province into debt like the PCs have done in the past and seem determined to do in the present. In fact, government debt and personal debt are the antithesis of Socred philosophy – always has been and always will be. Alberta Social Credit also believes that the policies of the current government are setting Albertans up for a big fall should the economics change and world oil prices collapse. By then, Alberta’s conventional oil and gas reserves may have been pumped dry in any event due to Tory mismanagement of our petroleum resources.
In the days ahead, Social Credit will be posing a number of “R U READY?” questions about the economy, social justice issues, environmental concerns, and democratic reforms. We hope to offer Albertans some insight on Socred policies and an overview of our middle-of-the-road solutions – kind of like where we see ourselves politically. We invite everyone to vote Social Credit, where applicable, and to visit our provincial headquarters in Calgary at Room 204, 4712-13th Street N.E. At the same time, we ask Albertans, “R U READY?” to support Social Credit long-term as a party member, contributor, or volunteer because, if you are, we are ready for you!
